Can YOU Tell When Your Brain Is In Alarm?

(Hint: You're Almost Certainly Missing MOST of the Times. EEK!!!)

One of the most important Relationship Readiness Skills we can develop is being able to tell when our nervous system is in alarm.

That is:

  • when we've lost our boundaries
  • when a “broken toe” has been stepped on
  • when an “inner orphan” has been activated
  • when we’re upset or triggered

These are all different ways of saying that our brains have gone into SURVIVAL MODE: fight, flight, appease, or freeze.

When we can recognize that our perceptions and strategies are being distorted by our Survival Brain, we can begin to learn how to manage these challenging moments so that we don't do damage to our relationships and our well-being.
